Canna indica — Indian Shot / Canna Lily | Tropical Ornamental Perennial, Live Plant

$12.99

Canna indica (Indian Shot, Canna Lily) is a bold tropical perennial from Central and South America, grown for its large, banana-like foliage and vivid red-to-orange summer blooms. It brings an unmistakable tropical presence to patios, borders, and container plantings, with continuous flowering from summer through fall — new blooms open in succession even though each one lasts just a day or two.

Beyond its ornamental impact, the flowers are a strong daytime draw for hummingbirds and bees, with moths and bats visiting after dark. Foliage ranges from green to violet-green and pairs well with other large-leaved tropicals for a lush, layered look. Non-toxic to cats, dogs, and horses, making it a safer choice for pet-friendly gardens.

Growing conditions:

  • Light: Full sun for best blooming
  • Water: Regular watering; tolerates wet soil and short dry spells once established
  • Soil: Rich, well-drained soil preferred; adaptable to poorer soils
  • Winter care: In Middle Tennessee's climate, rhizomes should be dug up in fall after first frost, dried, and stored in dry peat or vermiculite over winter, then replanted in spring — it is not reliably winter-hardy here as a perennial left in the ground.

Size: Shipped in a 4" container.

Shipping: Orders ship out UPS every Monday.
