Hoya lacunosa — Cinnamon Hoya, Live Plant

Hoya lacunosa, known affectionately as the Cinnamon Hoya, is a compact, semi-succulent Hoya prized for its dense, glossy foliage and one of the most rewarding fragrances in the genus. Its name refers to the "lacunose" texture of its leaves — subtly sunken between the veins — while small, closely spaced ovate leaves give the plant a full, lush look even before it blooms.

This species flowers more readily and more often than many other Hoyas, producing tight balls of 15–25 small, fuzzy white-to-cream star-shaped flowers with pale yellow centers. The real payoff is the scent: a sweet, spicy cinnamon fragrance that intensifies at night, capable of perfuming an entire room. Unlike some Hoyas that take years to first bloom, lacunosa often flowers within its first full growing season.

Its trailing, pendant growth habit makes it a natural choice for a hanging basket, where its dense foliage cascades attractively, though it can also be trained to climb a small trellis or moss pole.

Care notes:

• Light: Bright, indirect light; a couple hours of gentle morning or late-afternoon direct sun can bring out attractive silver mottling in the foliage
• Water: Allow soil to dry between waterings — this species stores water in its semi-succulent leaves and is more forgiving of underwatering than overwatering
• Humidity: Adapts to average home humidity but rewards higher humidity with stronger new growth
• Soil: Well-draining mix — orchid bark, perlite, and peat-based or coco coir blend
• Note: Don't remove spent flower stalks (peduncles) — Hoya lacunosa reblooms from the same spot repeatedly
